Our Lions Advance to the 2nd Round! (Baseball)
DIAA STATE TOURNAMENT - Congratulations to our 2024 Baseball Team on their thrilling win in the first round of the State Tournament! WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!
With the bases loaded, and St. Georges holding a 1 run lead, Landyn Washington hit a single to drive in the winning run!
This was an exciting, back and forth game with St. Georges jumping out to an early lead with 2 home runs in the first inning. Red Lion bounced back and took the lead with a 5 run 4th inning. Gavin Lindo started the inning by getting hit by a pitch and then Logan Hill, Tryston Sutton and Landyn Washington all followed with singles. Brayden Redmond topped off the inning with a bases clearing triple.
The 7th inning started with the score tied 6-6. St. Georges scored 2 in the top of the 7th. Caleb Sutton drew a walk to start the bottom of the 7th and the next 3 batters were all hit by a pitch to get the score to 8-7. That was when Landyn came up to drive in the winning run.
Our next game will be at 1PM Saturday against the #2 seeded Ravens of Sussex Tech High School. Please come out and support our team in the second round of the state tournament.
Tickets must be bought online prior to the game. Tickets will be available soon at

Black History Month: We honor Coach Eric Fischer
With Love and Honor: We miss you Coach Eric Fischer.
Eric was always a friend to our school and our students.
Eric came to our school several times to speak about Black History Month.
This year we miss you dearly! We know you're in a better place and looking down on all of us now.
Love you Coach!
Eric was the first African American to graduate from North Carolina State University, Engineering Program.
Eric W. Fischer, “Fisch”
September 5, 1957 - March 5, 2023
Eric W. Fischer, “Fisch”, son of Catherine Fischer and William Fischer (deceased), passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023. Eric was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, on September 5, 1957. He grew up in Willingboro, New Jersey, and graduated from John Fitzgerald Kennedy High School in Willingboro, New Jersey. Eric earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University. Fisch was also a Wolfpack athlete, earning a spot on the football and basketball team at NC State. He worked as an Engineer Program Manager with Lockheed Martin. After retiring from Lockheed Martin, he taught engineering and coached football at Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Technical High School in Bear, Delaware. He also coached basketball at St. George’s Technical High School and most recently at Hodgson Vo Tech.
Eric would always greet you with a smile, a joke, or a helping hand. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend. He lived his life by the Golden Rule, “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you…”, Gospel of Matthew (7:12). He loved coaching high school football and basketball because he was able to work with countless young adults as their coach and mentor. Eric often shared that one of his greatest accomplishments in life was helping so many young adults reach their goal of attending university. He was a big-hearted man who lived his life fully and with joy. Those he leaves will remember him with love.

The 2021-2022 RLCA Girls Varsity Basketball Team has qualified for States this year!!!
WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mark you Calendars for Wednesday, March 2 @7pm !! We're headed to Cape Henlopen!!
Here is our story:
An impressive season so far with a 16-4 Record!!
The beginning of the Season was filled with anticipation and uncertainty due to having an entirely new Coaching Staff and only 2 returning players.
Limited on practice time before their first games, as most high school sports are due to short seasons, the coaches and players quickly assembled to hit the court and build a team.
With Bible Verse Joshua 1:9 guiding them this season, their themes were Fearless, Togetherness and NDU (Nothing Divides Us).
As with any new team, they shared their challenges, obstacles and ups and downs. But at the end of the day, it is their drive for greatness, their love of the game, their willingness to come back each and every day and their faith in God that allowed them to achieve their victories and successes!!

Hello everyone,
I hope this email finds you well! Just wanted to update you on our Fall Sports program.
Right now we are scheduled to start on August 17th. At the moment that is the plan but it could change.
I'm hearing many different things on a daily basis.
What I do know for sure:
- DIAA meets on July 23rd - We may know more after that meeting. I will send an update on July 24th. I will also be sending out weekly updates from now until we get back to sports to make sure everyone is kept up to date.
- The Governor and Department of Education will make a decision on public schools going back to school the first week of August. This is important because if public schools do not go back to school then there would be no fall sports.
- New physical form from DIAA - this was sent out today and has COVID questions in it: https://www.doe.k12.de.us/cms/lib/DE01922744/Centricity/Domain/347/DIAA%202020-21%20Preparticipation%20Physical%20Form%20Packet%20final%20rv%207-16-20.pdf

COUNTDOWN TO GRADUATION SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
COUNTDOWN TO GRADUATION
SENIOR SPOTLIGHT – Lydia Glover
In the fall, Lydia will be attending Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama and majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She has attended Red Lion since 2nd grade.
Her favorite memories from Red Lion was her junior year lacrosse season and all the laugh and fun times her team had, but most important was getting to see her friends every day! Another favorite memory was getting to play sports and doing theater with her sister Claudia Glover, before she graduated.
During Lydia’s high school years, she was part of the National Honor Society, choir, field hockey, the Musical Theatre, and was a tutor. One of her biggest accomplishments was being the lacrosse captain and a tutor!
Lydia sees herself in 10 years as working in an elementary school as a speech therapist! She also sees herself as having some cats and traveling a lot.
Lydia’s favorite Bible verse is Romans 12:2: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Lydia’s words of wisdom to share with younger students: Keep an organized locker, don’t procrastinate, and play a sport (or 2, or 3!). Also, get in God’s word every day in the morning or evening and you will see a difference!
Lydia how are you feeling about the Coronavirus Pandemic? The coronavirus has given me a lot of free time to channel my artistic side, get to know some girls going to Samford in the fall, and most importantly to spend time with Jesus! It is sad to be missing the end of senior year but I know that God works everything together for good!

COUNTDOWN TO GRADUATION SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
COUNTDOWN TO GRADUATION
SENIOR SPOTLIGHT – Morgan Mendick
In the fall, Morgan will be attending Cabrini University in Radnor, Pennsylvania and majoring in Business Management and minoring in Economics, while doing the 3-3 program for Widener Law School. She has attended Red Lion since 6th grade.
Her favorite memories from Red Lion was the Senior Missions Trip and seeing the young children and how they lived their lives. Every home I went into brought me to tears, and seeing how thankful they were for the little bit of food we supplied really made me under the fact of how much we as Americans really have compared to others.
During Morgan’s high school years, she was part of the varsity volleyball and softball teams since the 8th grade. Morgan was on Student Government as the Class Chaplain, 6th through 12th grade. During her 9th and 10th grade years, she was in the Mock Trial Competition and won multiple gavels. She was also on the Worship Team and Choir.
What accomplishments is Morgan most proud of? Morgan is most proud of breaking the school record and achieving over 1500 digs in her time playing volleyball at Red Lion. She made it to the third round of the State Tournament her sophomore year.
Morgan sees herself in 10 years as working as a Family Court Lawyer and owning her own house. She also plans on continuing to sing at her Church and hopefully will be married by then.
Morgan’s favorite Bible verse is Psalm 92:15 “For he is my rock and there is no unrighteousness in Him.”
Morgan’s words of wisdom to share with younger students: You never know what is going to happen in life. This time with your friends and enjoying the high school years, will be over before you know it. Our class firsthand is an example of this. What will never go away however is Jesus! Without him you are nothing, and before you go into a world that does not care about you, I encourage you to take the time and really try to grow in your faith. The community you are around is something that you will not be able to experience again.
Morgan how are you feeling about the Coronavirus Pandemic? COVID-19 took away the last two months of my high school year and made this easily the worse high school senior year compared to other classes. However, during this time I have been indulged into my studies and have been reading my bible more often than I had normally. In my opinion, I believe God gave us this time to be able to realize how many things we idolize and think we need when, the only thing we need in to believe in Him.
What was your favorite class and/or teacher and why?
My favorite class was very unexpected because to be honest she was not my favorite teacher in Middle school, but it would be AP Lit with Mrs. Pinder senior year. Mrs. Pinder has the sweetest soul and she genuinely cares for all her students. I realized how much she loved the Lord! When I had brought up how good it was that we can openly pray in school, her face had lit up with joy in class. She began to talk about how much she loved the Lord and she began crying because she loves the Lord so much. She is someone that is always a ray of sunshine and someone I really look up too.

Derek’s words of wisdom to share with younger students: Keep your grades up, do not feed into dumb drama, enjoy high school because it goes quick, and don’t take things too seriously, get out and have fun.
How are you feeling about the Coronavirus Pandemic? I do not like it! I'm losing time and cannot play high school sports again! It's taking jobs from people and it is chaotic when it should not even be that bad.

A Coronavirus Prayer
So my son Kenny (Red Lion Football - Offensive Coordnator) is also a nurse on the front lines at Christiana Hospital,
I get a text today - 4/3/20
"If all predictions come true I'm gonna be exposed. I'm just getting a feel for what to do and how to best protect myselft before it gets too bad. I'll be fine"
For a parent - my anxiety is through the roof for my son and has been since this started. My wife and I pray for all every night. After receiving his text - my anxiety went even higher. As a few hours passed, gathering my thoughts and praying to our Lord Jesus, I am comforted in Kenny's faith and passion for others.
I'm also so proud of my son for having the courage to go to work each day and care for those fighting this virus.
His courage, and his faith, can give us all faith during these crazy times.
Let's all be in prayer for each other. Love all of you in the Lord.
Praying for all in Jesus name. Amen.
Ken
Psalm 23 was one of the first verses I remember knowing as a child. Now that verse holds true more than ever.
A Coronavirus Prayer
Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages “curing every disease and illness.” At your command, the sick were made well. Come to our aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love.
Heal those who are sick with the virus. May they regain their strength and health through quality medical care.
Heal us from our fear, which prevents nations from working together and neighbors from helping one another.
Heal us from our pride, which can make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders.
Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages “curing every disease and illness.” Come to our aid now, that we may experience your healing love.
Jesus Christ, healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow.
Be with the families of those who are sick or have died. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair. May they know your peace.
Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in the process. May they know your protection and peace.
Be with the leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the well-being of the people they are meant to serve. Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for or prevent future outbreaks. May they know your peace, as they work together to achieve it on earth.
Whether we are home or abroad, surrounded by many people suffering from this illness or only a few, Jesus Christ, stay with us as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give us your peace.
Jesus Christ, heal us.

Delaware Black History:
Honoring Hall of Famer Judy Johnson
"The sun is shining and there's a baseball game going on." Judy Johnson
Early into his childhood, the family moved to Wilmington, Delaware; by that time his father worked at the docks as a shipbuilder and as the athletic director.
"Johnson was the best hitter among the four top third basemen in the Negro Leagues, but no-one would drive in as many clutch runs as he would. He was a solid ballplayer, real smart, but he was not the kind of fellow who could ‘just get it done.’ He was dependable, quiet, not flashy at all, but could handle anything that came up. No matter how much the pressure, no matter how important the play or the throw or the hit, Judy could do it when it counted". Cool Papa Bell
William Julius "Judy" Johnson (October 26, 1899 – June 15, 1989) was an American professional third baseman and manager whose career in Negro league baseball spanned 17 seasons, from 1921 to 1937. Slight of build, Johnson never developed as a power threat but achieved his greatest success as a contact hitter and an intuitive defenseman. Johnson is regarded as one of the greatest third basemen of the Negro leagues. In 1975, he was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame after being nominated by the Negro Leagues Committee.
From 1921 to 1929, Johnson was a member of the Hilldale Daisies ball club and became an on-the-field leader respected for his professional disposition. His consistent swing and fielding prowess helped the Daisies win three straight pennants in the Eastern Colored League and the 1925 Colored World Series. After serving as a player manager for the Homestead Grays followed by the Daisies in the early 1930s, Johnson signed with the Pittsburgh Crawfords; as a part of the vaunted Crawford line-up of 1935, Johnson contributed to a team widely considered the greatest in Negro league history. He retired in 1937 after a short second stint with the Grays.
Following his retirement from baseball as a player, Johnson became a scout for Major League Baseball teams. He was hired as an assistant coach by the Philadelphia Athletics in 1954, becoming one of the first African Americans signed to a coaching position on a major league ball club. In his later years, Johnson served on the Negro Leagues Committee and stepped down in 1975 to accept his hall of fame nomination. He suffered a stroke in 1988 and died a year later.
Wilmington Blue Rocks Stadium (FRAWELY STADIUM) the field is named in honor of Judy Johnson:

George Washington Carver developed a variety of uses for crops such as cow peas, sweet potatoes, and peanuts. Known as “the Peanut Man,” he found 100 alternative uses for the peanut, including dyes and gasoline. Carver also served as an educator at the Tuskegee Institute.
- Madame C.J. Walker – One of the first African- American women to become a self-made millionaire. Madame C.J. He was one of the earliest innovators of the literary art form known as jazz-poetry. He is In his lifetime, Hughes wrote more than 60 books, including poetry, novels, short stories, musicals, and autobiographies.
- Jackie Robinson – A professional baseball player, who broke the color barrier. Jackie Robinson made history on April 15th, 1947 when he became the first African-American to play in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson faced opposition from fans and fellow players, receiving threats. However, Robinson promised Branch Rickey, president of the Brooklyn Dodgers, that when faced with racism, he would not fight back. After retiring early in 1957, Robinson engaged in civil right activism and became a spokesperson for the NAACP.
- Rosa Parks – Activist in the Civil Rights Movement. On December 1st, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to surrender her seat on the bus to a white passenger. - Martin Luther King Jr. – Social activist and baptist minister. Martin Luther King, Jr. led the Civil Rights Movement during the mid 1950s until his death in 1968. King sought to end social inequality through peaceful protest. In 1955, King served as the protest leader and spokesperson of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Later in 1964, he led the March on Washington where he gave his most famous address, known as the “I Have a Dream” speech. His activism helped bring about landmark legislation, such as the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.
- Ruby Bridges – The first African-American student to attend an all-white public elementary school in the South. On November 14th, 1960, Ruby Bridges was escorted to her class by her mother and U.S. marshals due to violent mobs. Although Ruby attended a desegregated school, she was ostracized by school staff and peers. Only one teacher, Barbara Henry, agreed to teach Ruby. No other students were in Ms. Henry’s class. Later in life, Bridges formed the Ruby Bridges Foundation.
- Wilma Rudolph – Olympic track and field athlete. In 1960, Wilma Rudolph became the first African- American woman to win three gold medals in track and field at a single Olympics. As a child, Rudolph had trouble with her left leg and had to wear a brace. However, Rudolph overcame her disability to later compete in the 1956 and 1960 summer Olympics.

Message from the Athletic Director
I'm sure all of us have heard about this terrible news.
Our hearts are aching tonight with the news of the passing of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and others.
Our prayers are with the families tonight and all of you. Such a tragedy. There are no words.
This reminds us that life is so short. Let's love and appreciate one another. Lets hold our children a little tighter.
Kobe Bryant:
There are no words that can explain the passing of this NBA Legend in this tragic accident.
The way Kobe played the game was unbelievable. Ice water always in his veins. "The Mamba". 5 NBA Championships. LOVED watching Kobe compete! We will all miss you.
Our Hope is in the Lord as we can claim these verses tonight - “absent from the body” "present with the Lord"
is found in 2 Corinthians 5:6-8.

Message from the Athletic Director - Game Day!
Our ladies are so special. We've enjoyed watching you compete all season. We admire your heart, your drive and will.
We are so proud of our Volleyball Team today. Please be in prayer and thanks for all of these ladies and our entire schoool.
We will be there routing you all on tonight! Do your best! We all pray and support you on this day!
When thinking about this game tonight I think back of some times like this in my life. What is my favoirte song to play during a competition like this you may ask? What helped me focus? What calmed my nerves down so I could focus and play my best?
One of my favorite songs was "Little Drummer Boy". Don't laugh it is true. I can remember back many, many years ago on the football field, or playing short stop in the heat of the summer - signing Little Drummer Boy to myself, before the ball was hit, or the ball was snapped. I loved this song and still do.
Do your best for Jesus tonight! (Poor boy, no gift fit for a King, I played my best for HIM, Then He smiled at me).
YOU can do this! Good luck Ladies and Coaches! Great job! We are proud of YOU!
