Girls Wrestling State Championship! Natalie !

Commending Resilience: Natalie Lewis at the Delaware State Championships

NATALIE WE ARE PROUD OF YOU !!!

Commending Resilience: Natalie at the Delaware State Championships

We would like to take a moment to recognize Natalie for her outstanding performance at the Delaware Girls Varsity Wrestling Championship this past weekend. Natalie competed with immense heart and focus, finishing the tournament with a 2–2 record.

While the final outcome may not have been exactly what we worked toward, true athletic character is forged in these high-pressure moments, and it is for this reason that we are so incredibly proud of her. Despite facing obstacles beyond her control, Natalie represented Red Lion Christian Academy with remarkable resilience.

What makes this achievement even more impressive is that Natalie is only a sophomore. Her grit, faith, and determination throughout this season have proven that she is already one of the top contenders in the state. Bringing a Girls State Championship to Red Lion is firmly in her sights, and it is Natalie’s character and heart that define her as a champion, regardless of the final results.

With her work ethic and talent, her future in this sport is tremendous, and we are excited to support her continued growth. Natalie truly embodies the spirit of a Red Lion student-athlete both on and off the mat.

Please join us in celebrating Natalie’s hard work and a fantastic season!

Go Lions!

Honoring the Life and Legacy of Rev. Jesse Jackson

Honoring the Life and Legacy of Rev. Jesse Jackson

Dear Parents and Families,

As we gather for our season during Black History Month, we do so with heavy hearts following the recent passing of Rev. Jesse Jackson. We join the nation in offering our deepest condolences to his family and to all who were moved by his lifelong commitment to justice. His departure is a profound loss, but his monumental impact on the fabric of our country will never be forgotten.

Let his life be a reflection for us. Many in our own community may remember when Rev. Jackson visited William Penn High School in New Castle back in the 80s. That visit left a lasting mark on Delaware, reminding us that no matter where we come from, we have a seat at the table.

Before he was a world-renowned leader, Rev. Jackson was a dedicated student-athlete—a star quarterback who understood that the discipline, teamwork, and resilience learned on the field are the same tools needed to change the world. He proved that the character we build in our young players today becomes the foundation for the leaders of tomorrow.

At Red Lion Christian Academy, we strive to instill these same values: the courage to stand up for others, the discipline to pursue a goal, and the character to treat every teammate with dignity. As we move forward with our games, we carry his spirit of perseverance and his famous call to "keep hope alive" with us on the field.

Thank you for being part of Red Lion Christian Academy as we honor a man who dedicated his life to making the world a more equitable place for the next generation.

Red Lion Christian Academy Boys Basketball

Red Lion Christian Academy Boys Basketball: A Season of Renewal

The Red Lion Christian Academy varsity boys basketball team is making waves midway through their 20-game season. With a current record of 6-4, the Lions have already achieved their most wins since the 2018-2019 season and, for the first time since 2017-2018, they sit above .500 through the first 10 games. This marks a fresh start for the program under new leadership.

The Lions are led by Head Coach Ryan Wilson, in his first year at Red Lion, alongside a dedicated coaching staff: Elijah Stephens, Donald Kumah, Ben Morris, and Ray Chapman. Together, they’ve brought energy and resilience to the team, which has shown in several thrilling victories.

One of the season’s most memorable moments came on December 18 against Hodgson Vo-Tech. Down by two with just 10 seconds remaining, Sam Taylor drained a clutch go-ahead three-pointer off an assist from Jayden Alexandre, sealing a dramatic win. Another highlight occurred on January 12 versus Aspira Academy. Trailing by nine in the fourth quarter, the Lions roared back behind Sophomore big man Jahleer Haley and Freshman EJ Anderson, who delivered key steals and scores. In overtime, Red Lion fell behind by four but quickly regained control to finish off the Wolves in a hard-fought victory.

The Lions’ success has been fueled by standout individual performances. Sophomore Jahleer Haley leads the team, averaging 15.6 points per game (8th in the state) and 11.2 rebounds per game (4th in the state). Freshman EJ Anderson has been a defensive spark, ranking 6th in the state with 2.9 steals per game, while Junior Owen Griffing provides scoring depth with 11.9 points per game, second on the team.

The JV squad is also showing promise, posting a 3-3 record, their best start since the 2022-2023 season, signaling growth throughout the program.

With renewed energy, strong leadership, and a roster full of talent, Red Lion Christian Academy basketball is building momentum and setting the stage for an exciting second half of the season. Next game is this Saturday 1/17 at 3:30 vs Wilmington Friends in the Pusey Center!

WE ARE STATE CHAMPIONS!

Red Lion Football Makes History: A Playoff Run Defined by Grit and Glory

This season was the definition of a storybook ending for the Red Lion Christian Academy football program. After overcoming an 0-2 start and facing the state's top-tier competition, the Lions secured the DIAA Class 2A State Championship—the first-ever Team State Championship in any sport in school history.

Here is a look at the incredible three-game playoff path:

* Quarterfinal: RLCA Dominates Laurel (W 31-13)

The Lions opened the playoffs by demonstrating their offensive firepower and defensive tenacity against Laurel, taking the 31-13 victory.

Key Highlights:

  • Evan Budinger led the offense with 164 passing yards and three touchdowns.

  • Judah Barber anchored the running game with 123 rushing yards and one touchdown.

  • Defensively, Nathan Everett posted 8 total tackles, an interception, a caused fumble, and a pass defended.

* Semifinal: Overtime Thriller vs. Howard (W 41-40, OT)

Facing the undefeated #1 seed Howard, the Lions delivered a spectacular performance that required every ounce of effort. In a back-and-forth battle, Red Lion secured the 41-40 overtime victory.

Key Highlights:

  • Evan Budinger was phenomenal, accumulating 362 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown.

  • Judah Barber crossed the century mark again with 111 rushing yards and a touchdown.

  • Aaron Hamon led the defensive pressure with 8 total tackles, including three sacks.

Special Teams: The Difference Maker

In this one-point overtime thriller, our special teams unit was absolutely instrumental. Long snapper JR Montgomery, holder Matt Loverde, and kicker Teigan Norris executed flawlessly. It was Teigan Norris's clutch kick that ultimately ended the game, securing the win by a single point and sending the Lions to the State Championship.

** State Championship: Double Overtime Triumph vs. Indian River (W 22-21, 2OT)

In a dramatic final, the Lions faced the undefeated Indian River (20-0 record). The championship came down to a 22-21 double-overtime win—a historic victory for the program.

Key Highlights:

  • Judah Barber anchored the offense, rushing for 155 yards and recording one touchdown and a key two-point conversion.

  • The defense was exceptional: Kassan Miles led the team with 15 total tackles and one forced fumble, and Cincere Warren logged 14 total tackles.

Special Teams: The Championship Point

Once again, the special teams unit of Montgomery, Loverde, and Norris proved the difference. It was Teigan Norris's successful kick in overtime that provided the one-point margin needed to secure the State Championship victory.

This championship run demonstrates the grit, discipline, and heart of these students. As Senator Eric Buckson noted, the players also showed "true sportsmanship" by turning back to comfort the opposing team amidst their celebration, demonstrating that the Red Lion commitment to character runs deeper than the scoreboard.
